The Employment Guarantee Scheme, Planning Department, Government of Maharashtra is implementing Maharashtra Employment Guarantee Act, 1977 (as amended up to August 6, 2014) through Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme- Maharashtra and Individual Benefit Schemes as per Section (12) (e) of aforesaid Act in the State of Maharashtra.

The Employment Guarantee Scheme is designed as a bottom-up, people-centric, demand-driven, self-selecting and rights and entitlement-based employment generation programme. This scheme also provides opportunities for generating productive assets, protecting and conservation of the environment, empowering marginalised sections of society, especially SC/ST and rural women , reducing rural-to-urban migration, fostering social equity, and strengthening rural self-governance through decentralization and process of transparency and accountability etc in rural areas of the state.
